Amata SA/NT Aboriginal Camp

Remote Concrete Batching & Stabilisation works.

Client: Department of Defence
Main Contractor: Eifers Civil
Timeline: August 2024

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The First Nations community of Amata in Australia’s red centre welcomed a 100-strong Army from the Aboriginal Community Assistance Program (AACAP) to their land in mid 2024. This program aims to develop three separate single-story buildings with nine self-contained units, each with a bedroom, a kitchenette and a bathroom.

In addition, AACAP 2024 will deliver a 960m swale (surface drain) along the northern and eastern sides of the township to direct floodwater away, strengthening the community’s flood resistance. These projects make Amata the 50th community to benefit from the AACAP program since its inception some 27 years ago.

Located at the western end of the Musgrave Ranges. Amata is one of the larger First Nations communities within the remote Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in the northwest corner of South Australia.

The Department of Defence will be on exercise for some 5 months to build these projects. One of the problems faced as the project started was that the Department of Defence found it hard to get supply of concrete remotely and that’s where Eifers stepped in.
